YUNEV Commercial Vehicle Weekly E-Mobility Global Headline Roundup
GM increases BrightDrop output, Panasonic ramps up 4680 production, Stellantis invests in Michigan plants, US Postal Service EVs arrive, EV charging infrastructure forecast falls short, Allison hybrid
Week of September 8, 2024
Allison (and Cummins) announced plans for a new hybrid electric drivetrain system for transit bus, following competitor BAE Systems’ next-gen hybrid system announcement last month. We’ve been watching for evidence that the hybrid pivot in the passenger car might create ripples across the commercial vehicle segment. While it’s too early to say definitively, these two developments appear to fit the fact pattern. Volvo CE is increasing its investment in producing electric construction vehicles, while GM announced plans for increased BrightDrop output. China’s battery industry continues to notch significant YoY gains. Despite all these important gains, Toyota and others (e.g., Northvolt) continue to adjust their EV growth forecasts downward and EV charging infrastructure lags EV forecasts. In Other News, we included an odd story from EV industry cheerleader, Electrek, just in case you missed it. We do not find their fury with other news outlets to be grounded or well-founded, but included it in the spirit of equal airtime and diverse viewpoints. Finally, we have a fun story to share about USPS and Oshkosh releasing the NGDV in “This Week’s Top Pick” below. Hope you enjoy!
