Week of June 29, 2025
Volvo Group and Daimler Bus each announced separate major milestones (5,000 e-trucks and 2,500 e-buses deployed, respectively) while Volvo's CTO detailed the massive level of investment required to reach this point and the need for all industry stakeholders to stabilize incentives policy and articulate compelling value propositions to drive faster uptake by fleets (his interview below is a must-read IMO). Meanwhile, competitive pressures are growing with BYD tripling its e-truck and e-bus production in the EU. Honda is already rethinking its recently announced bold H2 FC production plans (including commercial vehicle applications). China continues to lead the global e-mobility market with the latest round of strict battery safety standards. CATL breaks ground on $6B investment in Idonesia-based battery plant (presumably majority NCM chemistry based on Indonesia's nickel-rich resources). And VW has launched a PHEV commercial vehicle platform. On a related note, TRC recently released their State of Sustainable Fleets Market Brief which serves as a useful snapshot. There are other great headlines below and don't miss the numerous e-mobility deployment news listed in this week’s In Other News. Collectively, these headlines reflect continued maturity, growth, and expansion of the global commercial vehicle e-mobility industry - despite a slower-than-desired growth rate and unfavorable policies and sound bites that seem to dominate many of today's news cycles. Keep calm and read on!
